A Night to Remember.
The lush landscape of the park environment, the acoustics and the laid back atmosphere at Chastain Amphitheater are enjoyed by my fiance and I as we attend several concerts a season. We typically go for the cheap seats on the lawn, spread out a blanket, take a cooler and enjoy a relaxing evening under the stars.
Last year, we were lucky enough to be upgraded to the terrace tables for the Symphonic Queen Spectacular, which was a very nice surprise! The show was a great experience despite the unbearable heat and humidity, which is the downside to outdoor events in Atlanta during the summertime. We attended the Hamlet's tribute to Led Zepplin and Queen, my fiance's favorite band of all time, with a centerstage view of the show.
Hamlet, the classically trained troup of London musical theater performers, was truly amazing as always. The belting out of Queen's greatest hits brought a unique flavor to the classic rock songs. Unique arrangements on songs like "Under Pressure" utilized a male and female vocalist duet, mixing up the traditional arrangements originally performed by Freddy Mercury and David Bowie. Some songs had their original operatic flair turned into a full scale "torch song," while others felt like outtakes from American Idol's Rock night performances. Overall, the performances were well executed and a must-see for any Queen fan.
